" There are more
and more up-and-coming bands with female vocalists. I'm blown away with this one's (Spirited Mind)
potential."
Josh Enriquez, KISS-FM, San Antonio, Texas. SPIRITED MIND, an original, modern rock group from San Antonio, Texas, is comprised of different backgrounds and influences but one common trait…talent. From the first moment Alexis, the petite female vocalist, takes the microphone and belts out the first lyrics, her powerful and soulful voice carries the audience from one song to the next. "I've seen countless numbers of groups that start with impressive licks. Then the singer opens his/her mouth and a train wreck begins," says Josh Enriquez, KISS-FM San Antonio, Texas. "This wasn't the case with SPIRITED MIND. I had no idea San Antonio had any groups with female leads, much less, one with this much talent," he continued. Formed in 1995, SPIRITED MIND’s talent has been showcased in opening for nationally known acts: Drain STH, Slash’s (Formally of Gun’s & Roses) Snake Pit, Sister 7 and Swamp Boogie Queen. They are also played often on San Antonio’s KISS-FM, “Texas Tracks”. With a new CD out and looking to do a video of a fan favorite, “Little Darlin’”, Spirited Mind secured Media Consultant, Derek Denton. “Tony O’Flaherty contacted me interested in full media promotion and to do a video for Ed McMahon’s new, national talent search NextBigStar.com,” Denton said. “We did the project and submitted it to NextBigStar. Not only were they selected, but Spirited Mind started winning!” Denton added. Finalists in NextBigStar.com and the national attention got the band eight television news stories in San Antonio on NBC, CBS and Fox Stations and a live television performance on KMOL-TV’s (NBC), “ San Antonio Living with Tanji Patton”. With the “buzz” building around Spirited Mind, they are focused on building their loyal fan base and aggressively courting Management and Record Labels. Alexis Perry, SPIRITED MIND's vocalist, was introduced to classical operatic training as a freshman in high school. This training won her several gold metals in state competitions. Her petite stature and bold sound creates fascination with those hearing and seeing her for the first time. Brothers, Scott and Paul Thomas, cover guitar and bass. "My father, who taught me to play guitar at the age of 12, is still one of the greatest guitar players I've ever known," remembers Scott. When Scott and Alexis met in high school they formed a special partnership. They began writing music together. Having enough quality material was never a problem when Alexis, Scott and Paul put their band together. Finding a drummer was another story. "Throughout high school we went through several drummers, none of which worked out. Finally, I found out there was a drummer who rented office space from my dad to practice and store his drums. That's when Tony came aboard." Scott said. Tony O'Flaherty's love of percussion began at the age of 12. Enrolled in beginning band in the 7th grade, Tony's training progressed through marching, stage and jazz bands while earning first chair in the drum section. Referred to as the "old man" of SPIRITED MIND, Tony's experience with several cover and original bands was the missing piece Alexis, Scott and Paul needed. “Alexis
rocks. Spirited Mind rocks.
They just keep getting better and better.”
